Carlos Vanwormer, the hotel's owner, presents it as a privileged destination on the Sea of Cortez and one of the world’s premier sportfishing spots. “For over 60 years, we’ve offered warm, attentive service to guests from all over the world,” says Carlos. The hotel stands out for what guests consistently highlight: its relaxed, boutique-style oceanfront atmosphere, where the authentic spirit of Baja California Sur truly comes to life.
Fleet director Aníbal Miranda leads sustainable practices, including catch-and-release, size limits, and the protection of billfish species. Carlos adds, “We host a fishing tournament every October that brings together people with a strong sense of community. Everything we raise is reinvested locally, supporting initiatives such as school transportation and university scholarships.”
The culinary journey at Palmas de Cortez begins at dawn at Chachas Mexican Kitchen, where fishermen and travelers gather for brunch from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Later, the mood shifts at Tikos Pool Bar, perfect for sipping fresh cocktails by the water. For lunch and dinner, Bay View reopens with an oceanfront menu that celebrates the flavors of Baja California Sur.
Racers Through the San Bartolo Canyons
