San Miguel de Allende impulsa estrategias de ordenamiento territorial mediante el PMDUOET 2019–2040. El programa establece lineamientos para el uso del suelo, crecimiento urbano y protección ambiental. Entre sus acciones destacan buenas prácticas ambientales, colaboración con organismos nacionales e internacionales y mecanismos de participación ciudadana. El objetivo es equilibrar desarrollo económico, turismo y conservación patrimonial en una ciudad con alta demanda residencial y turística.
