The AVENUE 14 editorial proposal suggests that contemporary agrihoods do not emerge in isolation, but can be understood through historical models of territorial integration. One example is the chinampas of the Valley of Mexico, where agricultural production developed in direct relationship with the surrounding lake environment and human settlements. The proposal also looks to the intensive gardens of the Parisian maraîchers and the water-management systems and urban gardens of Amsterdam as precedents. This genealogy allows the editors to explore how agriculture, housing, and local food systems have coexisted in different contexts throughout history.
